Question

Each side of a equilateral triangle is 4 cm. longer than the side of a square. The sum of the perimeters of the two figures is 96 cm. how long is each side of the triangle?

Answer 1

Let x = side of a square

∴the side of triangle=4+x

 

So, the perimeter of the square=4(x)=4x

and the perimeter of a triangle=3(4+x)=12+3x

 

Now it is given that,

  4x+12+3x=96

∴7x+12=96

∴7x=84

∴x=12

 

∴the side of the triangle =x+4=16....ans.

Let s be the length of a side of a square. Then the each side of the triangle is s+4.  Perimeter of square is 4s. Perimeter of triangle is 3(s+4). Add together and solve algebraically.
