Let the expenditure of A be Rs x, so expenditure of B is 3x/7

 

Also, let income of A be y so income of B is 4y/9

 

Savings for A is y-x = 2000 or y = x + 2000

 

Savings for B is 4y/9 - 3x/7 = 2000

 

Substitute for y

 

4(x+2000)/9 -3x/7 = 2000

 

(4x + 8000)/9 -3x/7 = 2000

 

7(4x+8000) -9(3x) = 9*7*2000

 

28x + 56000 - 27x = 126000

x = 70,000

 

So expenditure for A is Rs 70,000
