A base for a shed has a volume of 3.8 cubic metres. 55% of the base is concrete. The rest is steel. A lorry delivers ready mixed concrete in loads of 6 cubic metres. How many of these bases can be built with 5 loads of concrete

Volume of shed is 3.8 cu m

55% is concrete so volume of concrete per base is 0.55*3.8 cu m

 

1 lorry delivers 6 cu m, 5 loads will be 6*5 = 30 cu m

 

Bases built with 6 loads = 30/(0.55*3.8) = 14.3

 

So 14 bases can be built.
