Let l=length and w=width of basketball court
Lets convert these sentences into equations:
The perimeter of a basketball court is 282 ft, The perimeter of a rectangle is 2*l + 2*w
2l + 2w = 282
the length is 43 ft longer than the width
l=43+w
Start by substituting your equation for length into the first equation.
2l + 2w = 282
2(43+w) + 2w = 282
86 + 2w +2w = 282
4w = 196
w = 49
Then plug this value for w back into one of your original equations to solve for l.
l=43+w=43+49=92
w=49, l=92
hope this helps,
Chris
