If the time he traveled from his home to Springfield is x hours, then the time for the return trip is 6-x
The distance is the same both ways.
Distance=time*speed
Therefore
45*x=55(6-x)
45x=330-55x
100x=330
x=3.3 hours
Distance=45*3.3=148.5 miles
You can check if this works for the other formula which was 55(6-x)=55(6-3.3)=55*2.7=148.5 miles
