(a+b)²=a²+2ab+b²

 

 

FOIL:  (a+b)^2 = (a+b)(a+b)...FOIL is "(multiply) F irst, O uter, I nner, L ast"...therefore, a^2 + (ab + ba = 2a's, 2b's = 2ab) + b^2 = a^2 + 2ab + b^2
