how do you find the properties of equality on a subtraction problem like y-5=(-6)

I don't understand what the teacher means when she asks us to find the properties  of equality in a subtraction problem like the one I have above, y minus five equals negative six.

y-5=-6

y-5+5=-6+5       Addition Property of Equality (you can add the same number to both sides of an equation)

y+0=-1              Additive Inverse Property or Property of Opposites (any number plus its opposite is equal to 0-this is the

                         left side of the equation; a+(-a)=0)

                         the right side is just one of the rules for adding integers

y=-1                  Addition Property of Zero (if you add 0 to a number the value of the number stays the same, it does

                         not change)

If a number is added, subtracted, multiplied, or divided to both sides of an equation, the solution to the equation does not change.

 

y - 5 = (-6)               add 5 to both sides

y - 5 + 5 = (-6) + 5   simplify

y = -1
