First thing you need to do is get rid of the fraction part. In order to do so, you need to multiply both sides by 2.
5x = 3x+5
2
5x = 2(3x+5) (multiplied both sides by 2)
5x = 6x + 10 (distributed the 2 to both the 3x and the 5)
-x = 10 (subtracted 6x from both sides)
x = -10 (divided by -1 on both sides)
It's also good to check your answers by putting your answer in for x.
5 (-10) = 3(-10) + 5
2
-50 = -30 + 5
2
-25 = -25
