If you have 4 rows of chairs and 6 columns then you have a total of 24 chairs this is because there are 6 groups of four chairs each. we can add these groups together my multiplying 6 times 4. In other words we add 6 to itself 4 times 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 24
