What are macrodynamics?

Macrodynamics is the relationship of dynamic markings throughout the entire piece or its large section, as opposed to within a small section such as a measure. Macrodynamics are important to study prior to learning a score, because the same dynamic markings can be reinterpreted depending on larger context. For instance, if the piece has several identical sections with identical dynamic markings, some gradation might be appropriate for overall piece shaping. That is to say, don't play the same section the same way twice.
