Mathematical Problem:
A farmer has one square mile of land. He decided to divide his land into 1/4 mile long and 1/4 mile wide.
What is the total of amount of fields?
Calculate the area of each field by implementing the following steps:
Step 1:
Use the Area formula: Area = length times width (L x W).
A = L x W L= 1/4 W = 1/4
Calculate the area of each field by multiplying the length 1/4 square mile by the width 1/4 square mile
Area = 1/4 times 1/4 = 1/16
1/4 x 1/4 = 1 x1 = 1 numerator (top) denominator (bottom) 4 x 4 = 16 = 1/16 square mile
Step 2:
1/16 square mile divided by 1 square mile
1 /16 square mile = 16
1 square mile
(cross or cancel out the 1's and unit's (square mile)
Solution: The farmer will have 16 fields.
