If "solve" means to put it in slope-intercept form, then you need to manipulate the formula until the y is by itself on the left.
For example, let's work a similar problem -
3x + 5y = 9 subtract 3x from both sides
5y = -3x + 9 divide both sides by 5
y = -3/5*x + 9/5 this is the slope-intercept form
