How can you add fractions with unlike denominators?
Example: 1/2 + 3/9
Step 1: We have to find a common denominator by multiplying the denominators by the other number.
1/2 x 9/9 = 9/18
3/9 x 2/2 = 6/18
When we multiply the denominator (bottom), we also have to multiply the top (numerator).
Step 2: The new question is now 9/18 + 6/18
Step 3: Add the two fractions together now!
9/18 + 6/18 = 15/18
So, 1/2 + 3/9 = 15/18
