This is a System of Equations problem (many other examples are available on Wyzant Ask an Expert archives).
Equation for number of people: C + A = 218
Equation for receipts: 1.50C + 2.25A = 377.25 (Note: could avoid decimals if do every thing in pennies)
Using substitution method: A = 218 - C
1.50C + 2.25(218 - C) = 377.25
1.50C + 490.50 - 2.25C = 377.25
-0.75C = -113.25
C = 151 Children
A = 218 - 151 = 67 Adults
Check: 1.50(151) + 2.25(67) = 226.50 + 150.75 = 377.25
