finding elapsed and subtracting time is similar to standard subtraction, you just have to be aware that the "tens" spot only goes up to 60 in the minutes and seconds.
Let's take 12 hours, 45 minutes, and 25 seconds, and subtract 2 hours, 16 minutes, and 42 seconds:
12:45:25
-2:16:42
10:28:43
The 2 in the seconds is smaller than 4, so we need to borrow from the 5 in the minutes. 2 + 6 = 8. 8 - 4 gives is that 4 in the tens seconds column.
Similarly elapsed time is taking what times whe know, subtract one from the other, and that gives us how long an event took.
Let's say Ellen started her jog at noon, and she got home at 1:30 How long did she take?
Noon is 12:00.
1:30 pm can also be seen as 13:30 (1 pm is the 13th hour of a full day)
Now we subtract one from the other:
13:30
-12:00
1:30
So Ellen's jog took one hour and 30 minutes.
I hope that this helps give you a grasp of how to find some time values.
