The given expression is 2x2 + 4x - 1
Taking 2 out from the first two terms; 2(x2 + 2x) - 1
Using the coeffient of x in the paranthesis 2;
(1/2 X 2)2 = 12 = 1
Adding and subtracting 1 to complete the square in the paranthesis
2(x2 + 2x + 1) - 1 - (2X1)
2(x2 + 2x + 1) -1 - 2
2(x +1)2 - 3 -------standard form
