Hex, binary, and & decimal scenario

Question

The representation of a number using a certain base, or any base, could be very long if the number is large. Computers due to its limited storage space, always use a certain amount of space (a certain number of bits) to represent a number, which means that computers can only represent a certain range of values. Some old computers once used a space of 18 bits to store an integer number. What is the range of values that this space can represent? What are the smallest and the largest values that can be represented? What are their binary representations and their decimal representations?

A four bit computer (0000 to 1111) has values of 0 to 15 (unsigned), and -8 to +7 signed

A five bit computer (00000 to 11111) has values of 0 to 31 (unsigned) and -16 to +15 signed

Similarly,

six-bit (00 0000 to 11 1111) has values of 0 to 63 (unsigned) and -32 to 31 (signed)

seven bit (000 0000 to 111 1111) has values of 0 to 127 (unsigned) and -64 to 63 (signed)

eight-bit (0000 0000 to 1111 1111) has values of 0 to 255 (unsigned) and -128 to 127 (signed)

Note the total numbers is always 2^n, where n is the number of bits

For a four-bit computer, 2^4 = 16 values

For a five-bit computer, 2^5 = 32 values

For a six-bit computer, 2^6 = 64 values

For a seven-bit computer, 2^7 = 128 values

For an eight-bit computer, 2^8 = 256 values
