Find all x intercepts of the function f(x) = (x+3)(1-x)(2x-8)
For all x-intercepts, y = f(x) = 0
f(x) = (x+3) (1-x) (2x-8)
0 = (x+3) (1-x) (2x-8)
If the product of factors = 0, then at least one of the factors = 0
Let each factor = 0 and then solve for x
x + 3 = 0
x + 3 - 3 = 0 - 3 subtract 3 from both sides
x = -3
1 - x = 0
1 - x - 1 = 0 - 1 subtract 1 from both sides
-x = -1
-1x / -1 = -1 / -1 divide both sides by (-1)
x = 1
2x - 8 = 0
2x - 8 + 8 = 0 + 8 add 8 to both sides
2x = 8
2x / 2 = 8 / 2 divide both sides by 2
x = 4
x = -3, 1, 4
x-intercept points = (-3, 0), (1, 0), & (4, 0)
