The problem can be solved by first separating the information about the large boxes and small boxes. The 15 large boxes each weighed 24 pounds. The 26 small boxes each weighed 16 pounds.
Each is a clue word, giving a hint to multiply. Altogether is a clue word, giving a hint to add.
Large boxes: 15 x 24 = 360 pounds
Small boxes: 16 x 26 = 416 pounds
Altogether: 360 + 416 = 776 pounds

15 large boxes and 24 pounds each box = (15)*(24)
26 small boxes and 16 pounds each box = (26)*(16)
Sum of all together = (15)*(24) + (26)*(16) = 776

Mark M has it correct.
In a word problem like that, if it was difficult to me, I might draw it out on my scratch paper. I would draw a big box and a little box. Under the big box, I would put how many I have and how much each weighs. I would do the same for the little box.
Sometimes, thinking 'out of the box' and drawing a picture or rewriting the question in a way that is easier to understand can pay off!
