What is the total area?

You want to paint a shed.

A gallon of paint can cover 500 square feet. You need to find the number of gallons of paint needed to paint 2 coats on each outside wall of the rectangular shed measuring 8 by 12 feet. The ceiling is 10 feet high. You will have a door in one of the 12 foot walls. The dimensions of the door are 3 feet by 7 feet. (Do not forget to subtract this out of the area needed for that wall)

What is the total area to be painted?

The paint is 32.49$ per gallon, how much will it cost to paint the storage shed?

Agreed a diagram would be very helpful. Do you clearly understand what type of area is required for coverage?

Areas of all four walls = 10 * (8+8+12+12)= 400. Subtract door 3*7=21. 400-21=379 areas to be painted. 2 coats. 2*379 = 758. 758/500=1.516gallons. $49.25
