asked 09/06/22What is the total area?
You want to paint a shed.
A gallon of paint can cover 500 square feet. You need to find the number of gallons of paint needed to paint 2 coats on each outside wall of the rectangular shed measuring 8 by 12 feet. The ceiling is 10 feet high. You will have a door in one of the 12 foot walls. The dimensions of the door are 3 feet by 7 feet. (Do not forget to subtract this out of the area needed for that wall)
What is the total area to be painted?
The paint is 32.49$ per gallon, how much will it cost to paint the storage shed?

Come to the math side... we have pi
To solve this problem we have 3 solutions to figure out
1) We need to find the lateral surface area of the shed
- To find the lateral surface area we add
2(length*height)+ 2(width*height) = lateral surface area
- We then subtract the area of the door
Lateral surface area - door area (3*7)
- In total, the equation would present
2(length*height)+ 2(width*height) - (door area)
2(12*10)+2(8*10)-(3*7) = 379 ft2
The total area to be painted is 379 ft2
2) Solve how many gallons of paint to be used
- Each gallon of paint can cover 500 square feet, we want 2 coats of paint on the shed.
- Therefore we need 758 ft2 painted which means we need 2 gallons of paint
Determine the cost of the total paint
- The paint costs $32.49 a gallon
- We will need 2 gallons of paint
The total cost will be $64.98
