Always do the reading! This is key to understanding what's going on in classes and not getting behind. It's easy to skip a day of reading but incredibly hard to get caught back up. Also, start your outline early - an outline is a document with all of the cases, their rules/holdings, and other important information that you've gathered from your readings and classes from throughout the semester. Keep adding to it after every class so you avoid cramming at the last minute. I definitely agree with Rayne S. on these points!
For exams, get to know your professor and what they like to see on exams. Do they follow IRAC? Do they want more or fewer cases in your exam answer? Do they want you to spit out memorized information or focus only on analyzing? Study any previous exams and model answers they give you. Also, talk to the TA and attend their TA sessions!
To succeed mentally, not just academically, I would highly recommend joining a couple of clubs and meeting outside of school. Graduate school is a full-time job, and you need time to de-stress and take care of yourself. Law school is unlike any type of school out there - be mentally prepared to take on each day. Make sure you consistently want to do this and seek out opportunities that allow you to follow your passions. Also, have a good support system around you that will understand what you're going through. Good luck!
