The length of a rectangular deck is 4 times its width. If the deck’s perimeter is 20 feet, what is the deck’s area?
We know that permimiter is the distance around the deck. Since it is a rectangle, we will have two short sides and two long sides. So 2L+2W=20
We also know that the length is 4 times the width. So L=4w)
Our new equation is 2(4W)+2W=20
8w+2w=20
10w=20
From there, solve for w, then multiply that answer by 4 to get the length of the rectangle.
Once you have both those numbers, multiply them together to get the area.
