A recipe uses 5 cups of flour for every 2 cups of sugar. If I want to make a recipe using 8 cups of flour. how much sugar should I use?

Let x = cups of sugar. Set up an equation using ratios and creating a proportion

5 cups of flour/2 cups of sugar = 8 cups of flour/x cups of sugar

cross multiply to solve

5x=8(2)

5x=16 divide both sides by 5

5x/5=16/5

x = 3.2 cups of sugar
