x^2 +2x - 8

= x^2 +2x + 1 -8 -1 = (x+1)^2 - 9 in vertex form

it's an upward opening parabola with vertex (-1, -9)

F and G are almost trick questions' At first glance they seem identical, but

F is false, G is correct, as the parabola is decreasing before it reaches the vertex
