Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
x+y = 6
multiply by 3
3x +3y = 18
that contradicts "3 times the larger" + "3 times the smaller 36
3x+3y = 36
graph them, they're parallel lines with no intersection. The equations have no solution
or maybe "3 times (the larger plus 3 times the smaller) = 36 means
3(x+3y) = 36
3x + 9y = 36 subtract
3x + 3y = 18
6y = 18
y = 18/6 = 3
x= 6-3 = 3
but the problem refers to a "larger" and "smaller" number
3 is not larger or smaller than 3
there is no solution
