You can convert all of the figures to inches and subtract that way. 4' = 4 x 12 = 48" so 4' 3" is 51"
5' 1" is therefore 61" and the difference is 10" as shown by Peter F.
There's another way to do it: 5' 1' − 4' 3"
won't work (can't take 3 from 1) but 5' = 4' + 12", so can borrow 1' = 12" from the 5'.
Change to 4' 13" - 4' 3" and get 10" that way.
