Two airplanes leave an airport at the same time and travel in opposite directions. One plane travels 67

 kmh slower than the other. If the two planes are 13,176 kilometers apart after 8 hours, what is the rate of each plane?

x + 67 = y = speed of the 2nd plane

after 8 hours they are 13,176 km apart after travelling in opposite directions

13,176/8 = 1647 km/hr

(x) + x+67 = 1647

2x = 1647-67 = 1580

x = 1580/2 = 790 km/hr

y = 790+67 = 857 km/hr

in 8 hours one went 790x8 = 6320 km

and the 2nd went 857x8 = 6856

together they went

6856+6320 = 13,176 km
