-2 - y = 6
y = -2-6= -8
3x - 8 = -8
3x = 0
x = 0
x=0, y = -8
UNLESS you mis-typed or mis-copied the problem, or the problem itself likely was not given correctly, and left out x in the 2nd equation
and it was meant to be
-2x -y = 6
then y = -2 and x= -2
