In order to find the 3 y-values to correspond to the given 3 x-values, you must plug each x-value into the equation in place of x and then solve for y. For example, let's suppose x=-1 was a 4th x-value given to you. To find the corresponding y-value we would do the following:
- Substitute -1 for x in the equation:
- Then simplify 5(-1):
- Use inverse operations to add 5 across the equation:
- Divide both sides by -3 to finish solving for y:
- We now have the y-coordinate being -17/3
- So the ordered pair is (-1, -17/3)
Similar (nearly identical) work will give you the three y-coordinates for your given x-values.
