4y - 3x = 20, y = -3x/4 + 2
4(-3x/4 + 2) - 3x = 20
-3x +8 -3x = 20
-6x = 12
x= -2
y = -3(-2)/4 + 2 = 6/4 +2 = 3/2 +2 = 7/2 = 3.5
solution (x,y) = (-2, 3.5)
OR graph the two equations and find where they intersect.
even a rough sketch may help.
4y -3x = 20
solution is (x,y) = (-2, 3.5)
y = -3x/4 + 2 is a line with slope = -3/4 and y intercept = 2. It's downward sloping
4y - 3x = 20 has slope = 3/4 and y intercept = 5 It's upward sloping
they intersect at (-2, 3.5) in Quadrant II
