6x + 3y = 54
2x + y = 18 solve the 2nd equation for y, then substitute into the 1st equation
y = 18-2x
6x + 3(18-2x) = 54
6x + 54 - 6x = 54
0 = 0
what this tells you is that the 2 equations are linearly dependent. the 2nd is just 3 times the 1st
they are the same line graphically. There are an infinite number of solutions.
2x + y = 18
x y
0 18
1 16
2 14
3 12
4 10
all these solutions (0,18), (1,16), (2, 14), (3, 12), (4, 10) and an infinite number of other integer, rational and irrational solutions will satisfy both equations.
