Algebra age word problem

Question

Pepay's age is one more that twice Nikk'si age. If the sum of their ages four years ago is seventeen, how old is Nikki and Pepay? ​

Let Papey's age is P, Nikk's age is N

p = 2 N + 1 . . . (1)

(P -4) + (N-4)= 17 . . . (2)

from equ(2) = > P + N = 17 + 4 + 4 = 25

substitute p = 2 N +1 From (1) in to (2)

=> (2 N + 1)+N = 25

H= > 3 N = 25-1 = 24

N = 24/3 = 8 and

P = 25 - 8 = 17
