complete the square
general form: y=ax^2 +bx +c
complete the square. take half the x coefficient, square it. add and subtract it
y = a(x^2 +bx/a +b^2/4a^2) + c - b^2/4a
y = a(x+b/2a)^2 + (4ac -b^2)/4a is vertex form which is standard form
vertex = (h,k) = (-b/2a, (4ac-b^2)/2a)) = the extremum, a max if a is positive, a min if a is negative
