slope is the difference in y values divided by the difference in x values: (7-4)/(1-4) = -3/3 = -1

the line is y-7 = -1(x-1) = -x+1

y =-x +1+7 = -x +8

x+y = 8

in point slope form it's either (y-7)/(x-1) = -1

or using the other point it's (y-4)/(x-4) = -1

which when simplified reduces to x+y=8

plug in either point

4+4 = 8

and

1+7 = 8
