general formula for a linear equation is y-k = m(x-h) where m is the slope and (h,k) is a point on the line
line through the point (10,2) with slope 1/5 is
y-2 = (1/5)(x-10) multiply both sides by 5 to eliminate the fraction
5y -10 = x-10 the -10's on both sides cancel leaving
5y = x is as simple as it gets, but rewrite in standard form as
x-5y = 0 as the line perpendicular to the given equation that goes through the given point
the slope of a perpendicular line is the negative inverse. If the given equation has slope = -5 = -5/1, then change the sign and flip the fraction upside down. to get slope = +1/5
check to see if the point (10,2)=(x,y) is on that line
x-5y =0
10-5(2) = 0
10-10 = 0
