The length of a rectangle is 2 units shorter than one-fifth of the width,x. Which expression represents the perimeter of the rectangle?

12/5x - 4

2/5x - 8

Length = L = x/5 - 2

width =W = x

Perimeter = 2(L+W) = 2(x/5 -2 + x) = 2(6x/5 -2) = 12x/5 - 4

the 1st answer is correct

It should have been written though as 12x/5 - 4 or (12/5)x - 4

but writing it as 12/5x - 4 is a little ambiguous as it usually means 12/(5x) - 4 which is incorrect.
