f(x) = -x + 1
f(x+h) = -(x+h) + 1
= -x -h + 1
the usual next step is to find [f(x+h)-f(x)]/h
[-x-h+1 - (-x+1)]/h
= [-x -h +1 +x -1]/h
= -h/h = -1
-1 is the derivative = slope of f(x) = f'(x)
the graph of f(x) =-x+1 is a straight line with a downward slope = -1 = the coefficient of the x term
