-8 = 12 has no solution. the left and right sides are inconsistent, contradictory
If you graphed the two sides, you'd get parallel lines with no point of intersection.
there are no real solutions.
You could say there are two "surreal" solutions of infinity and negative infinity, but the normal answer is zero solutions, referring only to real or imaginary numbers.
