How thick is the frame?

The thickness of a frame around a rectangular picture is exactly one-eighth of the pictures width. The length of the picture is 5 inches longer than its width. The perimeter of the outer edges of the frame is exactly 100 inches. How thick is the frame?

to solve this problem, I suggest you draw the rectangle with the border ( frame) around it.

let the width be w, length would be w+5

if you notice the border is on both sides along the width and length. Mark those as w/8

total perimeter including the frame =100

2(w+w/8+w/8) + 2(w+5 +w/8+w/8) = 100

I am going to let you solve this from here.

You would solve for w. You have to then find the thickness which is w/8.
