Given:
Farmer 9.3 kg of pears and apples.
3/4 of the weight is pears.
Find: Weight of apples.
Solution:
Let x = what we're looking for.
x = weight of apples
Total weight = weight of pears and apples
9.3 = (3/4)*9.3 + x
9.3 - (3/4)*9.3 = x
(1/4)*9.3 = x
2.325 = x
Weight of apples is 2.325 kg.
NOTE: A simple way to look at this problem
is to realize this...
If 3/4 the weight is pears,
Then 1/4 the weight must be apples.
So,
Weight of apples = (1/4)*(Total Weight)
Weight of apples = (1/4)*9.3 = 2.325 kg.
