Parallel lines have the same slope. Since the equation of the line in your problem is written in slope-intercept form, we can identify the slope right away: y = mx + b (m is the slope , b is the y-intercept)
y = 2/3 x + 5
The slope of this line is 2/3
Now we can use the slope of 2/3 and the coordinates of the point (-3,4) on the new line to find the y-intercept of the new line:
y = 2/3 x + b
4 = 2/3 • (-3) + b
4 = -2 + b
4 + 2 = -2 + b - 2
6 = b
The equation of the parallel line will be:
y = 2/3 x + 6
