An airplane travels 4856 kilometers against the wind in 8 hours and 6376 kilometers with the wind in the same amount of time. What is the rate of the plane in still air and what is the rate of the wind?

8A + 8W = 6376

8A -8W = 4856

divide all above by 8 to get

A+W = 6376/8 = 797

A-W = 4856/8 = 607

add both sides

2A = 1404

A = 702 km/hr

W=797-702 = 95 km/hr
