Hi...
To place these given numbers in order from least to greatest, you need to look at the PLACE VALUES and determine as you work LEFT to RIGHT, and compare the digits to determine which one has the least value and then compare the other two digits to determine the final order. Work LEFT to RIGHT starting in the THOUSANDS, then HUNDREDS, then TENS and then the ONES place.
Some times, you won't need to do ALL OF THAT and you may only need to check out 1 or 2 place values.
Given numbers: 8,912 8,129 and 8,219
Th H T O - these are the PLACE VALUES (thousands, hundreds, tens and ones.)
8 9 1 2
8 1 2 9
8 2 1 9
All numbers have the SAME digit in the THOUSANDS place, so move onto the HUNDREDS place.
In the HUNDREDS place, 1 is the least number...so automatically 8,129 is the LEAST of the three numbers.
You can stay in the HUNDREDS place and see that 2 is less than 9, so 8,219 is the next number in the order, leaving 8,912 are the GREATEST number of the three.
So from LEAST to GREATEST the order will be 8,129 then 8,219 and finally 8,912.
Hope this helps...
