There are several ways to solve this problem.
Option 1: Set up a proportion using the unit rate and solve for the missing number.
12 miles = x miles
1 hour 2.5 miles
Multiply the unit rate by 2.5 to find the number of miles. 12 miles x 2.5 = 30 miles
Option 2: Set up a table with equal rates
Miles Hours
6 0.5
12 1.0
18 1.5
24 2.0
30 2.5

(12 miles/ 1 hour) * (2.5 hours ) = 12miles *2.5 = 30 miles
The units of hours in the numerator and denominator cancel out.

Or you could just look at it and say, 12 miles = 1 hour, 24 miles = 2 hours and 6miles = 1/2 hour. Add them all together and you get 30 miles.01/23/21
