Knowledge is Key
this problem 8x-7 cant be factored on its own since it is just a linear expression and factoring is usually applied to quadratic equations since to factor something would be to break it down to its constitutes and a linear expression cant be broken up since 8x is just a multiplicative expression while -7 is a constant so this linear expression will no longer exist while in the quadratic equation the expression 8x-7 is still there since this expression would just be part of a quadratic equation in the form ax^2+bx+c=0 or if 8x-7 was added to an expression of x^2 so that an expression of x^2+8x-7 arises or equation x^2+8x-7=0 which can be factored to find the roots of a quadratic expression.
