In Civil Engineering, you will need to solve problems of stability known as Statics. This is a vector equation about the net moment of forces being zero, which leads to many coupled linear equations that need to be solved simultaneously. The solution of these set of equations is easily obtained by means of Linear Algebra. I suggest you basically pick any book on Statics and write your research project based on that.
