I would recommend Yamaha as a starting guitar. It definitely is more well rounded in terms of sound and quality. While Ibanez is still an okay brand it focuses more on the visual aspect of the guitar rather than the sound. However, it really depends on the person. Each guitar has its own personal sound and feel. If possible, you should check out some videos online on these guitars and listen to how each one sounds. You can then make a more informed decision. If you can, I also recommend going out to somewhere like Guitar Center or another music store with those guitars and try it out. You can definitely get a good idea of how each one sounds and feels.

Hi Imdeni,

I started out with a Yamaha guitar. I know that branding can play a huge part in budget guitars, and Yamaha is often associated with boat engines and quad ATVs etc etc, but Yamaha actually started making instruments first.

They are absolute units of guitars. Very durable and have a really well balanced tone. A perfect work-horse for gigging in pubs or other intimate venues on a budget.

To compare, I have a Yamaha with a BROKEN headstock just hanging by a thread and still plays as good as my Taylor Academy 10e.
