An electrician normally charges $80 per hour but on holidays the charge is $100 per hour. During a certain period the electrician worked 60 hours and received $5,180. Let x represent the number of holiday hours worked and write an algebraic expression for the items in parts a to c.

80(60-x) + 100x = 5680

4800-80x +100x = 5680

20x = 5680-4800= 880

x =880/20 = 44 holiday hours worked

total payment for holiday hours = 44x100 = $4,400

5680-4400= $1280 for regular hours at $80 per hour

60-44 = 16 regular hours. 16x80 = 1280
