(f+g)(x) is the same as f(x) + g(x)
From the problem,
f(x) = 2x + 1
g(x) = x^2 - 7
We will plug our equations for f(x) and g(x) into f(x) + g(x) as shown:
(f+g)(x) = 2x + 1 + x^2 - 7
Now we will combine like terms (which is only the -7 and 1)
(f+g)(x) = 2x + x^2 -6
Let's put it in order and get our answer!
(f+g)(x) = x^2 + 2x -6
