The first number is 6 less than 5 times the second number. The difference of the first and second number is 22. What are the two numbers?

x -y = 22

first = 29, 2nd = 7

29 = 5 times 7 minus 6

29 minus 7 = 22

graph the 2 lines and find their intersection point (29,7)

or use substitution elimination, or matrix algebra

5y -6 -y = 22

4y = 28

y = 28/4 = 7

x =5(7)-6 = 35-6 = 29
